I've had the great privilege of working with The Inn Theatre Company
They  nestle deep into the s/w coast and have perhaps the most splendid of stages- a natural setting to take your breath away.
The second breath-taking moment is their truly adept skill and mastery of delivering high quality, hugely entertaining and popular work.
They were born to speak the Bard and you were born to listen. I urge you to go and share in their joy and if need be beg, borrow or steal a ticket - but get one. See you there!

CELEBRATING SHAKESPEARE & MODERN THEATRE, TOGETHER!

For the past fifteen years The Inn Theatre Company have presented Dartmouth Sakespeare Week in the open-air at Dartmouth Castle, a stunning, natural location for producing some of the finest plays ever written in the English language.

In 2013, we revisited the darker side of the canon, and presented what many consider to be Shakespeare's greatest play and most moving tragedy - King Lear.

'On holiday in the west country, saw the advert in Dartmouth tourist magazine so decided to bring the family to see King Lear;15 year old, three early twenties and a couple of mature groundlings. What an unexpected treat and on a par with a recent visit to the Globe.  The interpretation, acting, setting, clothing were all excellent.  Hard to believe that the majority of actors were not professional.  The performances of King Lear, Cordelia/fool, Edgar, Edmund, and Duke of Kent were all outstanding.'

From Brian Mcdermid - by email

IT'S WHAT WE DO

We have, over the years, presented some of Shakespeare's greatest plays...and there are still some of them left that we haven't done. However, because we believe in entetainment (much as Will did), we have also revisited some those productions recently.

That being said, although it is about pleasing your audience, it's also about pleasing the actors and those involved in the production; so we try to guage everyone's opinion as to what we should do next, in respect of Dartmouth Shakespeare Week.

Here's a look at what we have presented up at the Castle thus far.

Review from the Dartmouth Chronicle

The Inn Theatre Company Tour - 2016

It seems we are in the process of evolving a tradition. 2014/15 saw the company tour 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. 2016 and we were back on the road again (with Theatre Hub) playing to sell-out audiences, all over south Devon, with 'Twelfth Night'.

And we are already planning the 2017 tour...which will be our rendering of The Tempest - with a female Prospera!

Below are some pictures from the last perfromance in the Twelfth Night tour, at Pecorama in Beer.

We are doing it all again!

After the incredible, sell-out tour of 2016 and all the plaudits (top ten must-see with Tripadvisor and Expedia) we are teaming up with

THEATRE HUB

and taking 'The Tempest' on-the-road.

One of the most magical and exciting of Shakespeare's plays, it speaks of love, revenge and forgiveness.

'The higlight of the theatrical calendar...is Dartmouth Shakespeare Week, with some brilliant performances at Dartmouth Castle.'

Above are a couple of short videos that will give you an idea of what we do, how we do it and what it looks like on our magnificent stage out at Dartmouth Castle. On the left is an extract from the 2011 production of As You Like It and to the right, a short promotional montage, with music, of some of the plays and many of the fine actors in the company.
